Brighton Museum’s ‘Provocatively Late’

Come along to Brighton Museum’s ‘Provocatively Late’ evening on Thursday 17th October.

The Knit List will be running a yarn-bombing workshop in the midst of all the fun at Provocatively Late.

Provocatively Late is part of the Brighton Museum’s late evenings happening alongside their exhibitions.  This month sees ‘Subversive Design‘ hitting the museum. Described as:

“From high fashion to high street consumerism, cheeky ceramics to controversial chairs, provocative lamps to ‘rubbish’ jewellery, this major exhibition subverts your preconceptions and challenges your relationship with objects you use on a daily basis.”

There will be performance, music, alternative gallery tours and of course crafts.

The Knit List will be providing materials to help you leave your woolly mark on the museum space.  Yarn-bombing seen as a way to alter public space to colour unloved or clinical areas or simply place a hidden spot of colour to make a passer- by smile.

It doesn’t matter if you have never knitted before or you knit everyday the workshop is open to all.

Plus, if you don’t fancy knitting you can always watch and have a cocktail.

Let’s make it colourful!

I’m always really grateful when friends  forward me, message, email or tag me with any knitted related articles they find.

They are always elective, interesting, sometimes slightly bonkers and always right up my street.

I love them so much so I thought I would create a top ten of the best ones from 2013.

So, thank you friends and don’t stop sharing.

Happy 2014!

1. Hot by Dean Chalky

Photographer Dean Chalky’s message was to layer up rather than hiking up the heating.  Getting his green message across in this playful way and relevant right now with the winter chills.

“To make the point in a fun and impactful way, I wanted to make a jumper that was extraordinary so we found Korina Kyriakou, a jumper maker extraordinaire, and she designed and knitted something a little crazy for the shoot.”

2. Carosa Woolen Coats , Vogue 1969529026_488025731244132_67270688_n

8. Vaginal Knitting by artist Casey Jenkins

Yes, it is what you imagine. A performance piece created by Australian artist Casey Jenkins in which she inserts wool into her vagina and knits a scarf from it over 28 days.

Check out this  interesting Guardian article of her response to the 3.5 million views of the youtube video.

9. Witness To Your Splendor Celtic Knot

Okay not technically knitting but this celctic knot allures you with its name alone.

I’m sure it would look splendid combined with a knitted piece.

I am about to embark into the world of machine knitting on London’s Morley College Experimental Machine Knitting course which I am really excited about.

I won’t be laying down my needles but I’m really looking forward to learning this new skill and sharing my learning here in The Knit List.

Until then, here’s my machine knitting pinterest board to have a gander at.

Welcome to Launch Effect v2.41 Lite! Launch Effect Lite lets you create and customize a viral landing page at the click of a few buttons. Version 2.41 includes some important stability fixes and speed improvements, tweaks to the theme’s responsive styling, and large improvements to the way the theme handles the generation of meta data for Facebook sharing, as well as the theme’s ability to play nice with popular SEO plugins. Be sure to check out the Launch Effect > Designer > Global Settings panel for more information. Take a look around to see what’s new and launch something today!

If you’re after a full-featured theme that still has the ease of customization and viral linking powers that you’ve come to love about Launch Effect Lite be sure to check out Launch Effect Premium!

Please feel free to contact us at our support forums if you have questions about setup or are experiencing any issues with the theme.

Setup in Two Easy Steps

Step 1 — Set Your Launch Page as your Homepage

Go to Settings > Reading.
Where it says, “Front page displays,” choose “A static page,” and select “Sign-Up” from the dropdown menu. When you refresh this page, it will disappear and your launch page will appear instead.

Step 2 — Start Designing!

Go to Launch Effect > Designer.
Now for the fun part! The Designer is now divided into three sections: Global Styles, Sign-Up Page, and Theme (premium only). That submenu is located directly under the giant Designer/Integrations/Stats tabs. The best way to get started here is to just start playing around and gaining an understanding of what selections affect which parts of the design. Good luck!
